Perched dramatically on the Kanduka Giri peninsula, surrounded on three sides by the Arabian Sea, Murudeshwar Temple features the world's second-tallest statue of Lord Shiva (123 feet) and an imposing 20-storey Raja Gopuram (249 feet).
How to Visit the 18th Floor Raja Gopuram Lift
The Raja Gopuram features a modern high-speed glass elevator that takes visitors directly up to the 18th floor observation deck. From the high arched windows, you get an unmatched 360-degree aerial panorama of the Shiva statue, Murudeshwar crescent beach, and deep blue ocean horizon.
The lift ticket counter gets crowded during tour bus arrival peaks (10:30 AM to 1:00 PM). Visit between 7:30 AM and 9:00 AM or between 1:30 PM and 3:00 PM for minimal wait times.
Underground Geetopadesha & Ravana Museum
Directly beneath the 123-ft Shiva statue lies a cool cavern museum displaying life-size sculpted dioramas depicting the story of Ravana, the Atma Linga, and Lord Ganesha tricking Ravana at Gokarna.
